Ø What is your plan to get involved on campus? What are your interests? Will you or have you joined any student organizations? Which two events besides UNITED & Career Major Fair do you plan on attending?

My plan is to indeed join an organization to become involved on campus. I really enjoy helping people and the community. It always makes me happy knowing i put a smile on someones face. i haven't yet my plan is to join and organization just not right now so i can get in the swing of college. I plan on atteneding the taste one for starbucks, and a hockey game.

Ø Fast Food Nation - Chapter 6:
Ø What are some of the problems facing cattle ranchers?
most of the cattle ranchers loose everything. They need to take out a several thousand dollar loan, and by then they just break even and loose everything. That is the main problem with cattle ranchers but sometimes they don't take a loan out until they have the check in their hand from the company.

Ø What are “captive supplies” of cattle? (“The four major meatpacking companies now control about 20 percent of the live cattle in the U.S. through ‘captive supplies’” (138). (See also p. 142).

Captive supplies are cattle that is locked up in pens, cages, and fenced off areas. These cattle are raised primarily for well, food. People expect so much more out of life, expecting these creatures to grow, tall, fat, and big in say 3 months, which isn't always the case. This is just a system to control prices of cattle. But these cattle are injected with hormones and other substances to prevent sickness to the animals and well make them grow un-naturally fast.

Ø What was the impact of the Chicken McNugget on the poultry industry?
It changed the way chicken were raised and processed. They started selling chicken in peices rather than whole. the chicken sales out sold beef in 1992. Basically they started to raise chicken poorly like the cattle to increase the production of chicken.

Ø How does the nutritional value of a McNugget compare to a hamburger?
the Mcnuggets have twice as much fat per ounze than a hamburger. Thinking about that makes me sick, like are we even eating chicken... The McNuggets resemble beef more than chicken.

Ø How does the suicide rate for ranchers and farmers compare with the rate for U.S. citizens in general? Why? suicide rate of ranchers is 3 times higer then U.S. citizens. Farmers have an idea in their head that when they fail, they failed on themselves and their families. It is more final and devestating to a farmer to loose at something then it is to say a teen loosing a football game. The ranchers put so much time and effort into what they do when they fail, they failed at life, and loose all interest to live feeling angry, upset, and worthless.

Ø Do you feel as if there is any healthy fast food available to consumers? If so, where and why? Give specific examples of products.. Please be honest and support your opinions. For example, I feel that Subway's Veggie Sub is extremely healthy due to its freshly-cut produce, cheese, and fresh-baked breads. I actually talked to a friend who works at Subway and he said in MQT, they slice their own produce. (My fear was that it arrived pre-sliced and filled with preservatives). It's not organic, but it's a start.
I feel there is healthier fast food than others, not healthy though. For example subway, way better than McDonalds, but not as healthy as a home cooked meal. I eat at subway all the time, turkey, white bread, lettace, tomatos, pickles, bannana peppers, mayo, and salt n' pepper. i personally think that is so much more healthier than a greasy oversized big mac full of chemicals.

Yea, I still say Subway is healthy for the most part too :)

I will see you at the Starbuck's tasting workshop!

It's hard as a commuter who works to get involved in campus, so no worries. I think it's more important to get into the swing of college and then socialize later.
