*Have you met anyone new who is important to you? Have you rekindled any old friendships that have made you stronger?
Walking into college for the first time i was like o my god what if i don't know anyone.. I soon found out all my classes had this group of "marquette girls". I was just acquaintances with most and became good friends. If it wasn't for this block i probably would'nt have truely gotten to know these girls. Along with the growing friendship between us marquette girls i met a "new girl", cori. They all are made my first semester in college a great one. :) and i will probably see all the marquette girls but my plan is to keep in contact with cori since she changed her major and i probably won't see her.

*Have you experienced any major changes academically or personally?
Personally yes, academically no. Academically I'm still going stronge with my high GPA... i got a 98 on my last antomy exam :) i was so excited so i passed the class with an A. Personally, I think with everything i have gone through, i'm now realizing things can't always go as planned. When your stuck with the same ppl for 4 years you think thats your life, but now that im in college i realize there is so much to do and so many people to meet and learn from. I'm excited for my future and not completely scared of change like before, since our world is constantly changing everyday.

*What is your one BEST or FAVORITE memory of this semester?
haha well i hated chemistry, but i loved how entertaining it was at times. I loved our facebook, laughing sessions. our long hours of studying for anatomy lab coming up with ways to memorize :)... meeting new ppl.

*How will you live your life to the fullest? A parting quote from Fast Food Nation:“Nobody in the United States is forced to buy fast food..Pull open the glass door, feel the rush of cool air, walk inside, get in line, and look around you, look at the kids working in the kitchen, at the customers in their seats, at the ads for the latest toys, study the backlit color photographs above the counter, think about where the food came from, about how and where it was made, about what is set in motion by every single fast food purchase, the ripple effect near and far, think about it. Then place your order. Or turn and walk out the door. It’s not too late. Even in this fast food nation, you can still have it your way.” (Schlosser, 270)

How will i live my life the fullest? What a question? I truly don't how to answer that. I feel like right now, I will make sure i have my goals straight, have fun, enjoy my life, my friends, and family and make sure i do all that i can to remain myself. In the future to live my life the fullest, i will make sure its what i wanna do, my job, family, house, ect.

“Seek first to understand, then to be understood.” –Stephen Covey1) Reflect upon what you read in Chapter 11 of Thriving in College. What does this quote mean to you or how can you apply it to your life?
I feel this quote means several things. The one that stands out the most to me is the fact of listening. Seek first to understand- seek first to listen, to understand what another person is talking about. In social situations you have to be willing to listen and pay attention to their interests, plans, and hobbies. "then to be understood" is the idea of you speaking. It's your turn to be understood by the other person, its the part where you now understand the other person, and now it is easier for them the understand you when you are able to relate to their experiences.

2) (Refer to page 380 of the text): Are you a “Crisis Tickler,” “Withholder,” “Irritator,” “Blamer,” or “Gunnysacker?” Explain.

I am clearly a gunnysacker :(... i do "collect" things and hold them in over time. Once i get so overwhelmed i let it all out. Its not nessecarily info or stuff about one person its collectively about several people or situations that i felt upset me. Then i usually explode.

sooo i realized it was just reading but i wasn't sure if we needed to answer this question... so i am

"Who are the people in your life that you tend to turn to for social support when you are experiencing stress or need personal encouragement?"

when i need social support when im dealing with stress i turn to my friends usually. I don't like asking for help so when i do bring something up its just for me to talk about it ramble on and on.. then be done with it... When i need encouragement i also go to my friends. My friends usually consist of the same group of 4 girls. I ask what they would do, what i should do, then i ask my dad.. sister.. or anyone really ( i'm indecisive).

1) What are you most stressed-out with at the moment? Why? Is your body re-acting to this stress? Devise a plan to deal with it.
im super stressed about 2 things. one, anatomy, i hate the exams.. most anxiety i've had in a while. I'm stressed about this becasue it is the most challenging class i have this semester. The second thing is my parents divorce ( what truly is fair, and how a decsion can be made without knowing the whole story). It stresses me out becasue the whole 50 50 idea isn't fair in this situation, and i don't want the "good person" to get screwed over. My body is wanting to shut down. It is getting so over whelmed i feel like i could sleep all day. To deal with this i just need to wait till january 27. And to deal with stressing about anatomy exams is to actaully do what i'm told in the beginning of the year and read my damn notes after class so i don't have to do this the week of the exam.

2) FFN: Chapter 8 / This is a creative writing exercise! Read the following scenario and finish it based on your knowledge after reading Chapter 8. You are "Raul" and have just immigrated to the American West illegally from Mexico. You brought your wife and two young children with you on a frightening and expensive 4-day journey in the back of a beat-up truck to arrive in Texas. You can't find work there and Border Patrol is cracking down, so you decide to migrate north a bit where you have relatives in Colorado. You are hired on the spot by ConAgra to work in one of their "beef processing" plants. -Describe in sensory detail your place of employment. (What's it look like, what is going on, how do people act, what do you wear, what is your job? etc..)-

People are very quiet here, not smiling, chatting, but sweating and very busy at work. I come to work everyday to put on "rain boots" the tall boots you tuck your pants into, a white meat jacket, and several layers of this steal material to protect myself against being cut. The building is dark, very enclosed, and crowded with people and machinery. This plant is slaughtering hundreds of cattle per hour, very inhuman I might add. The cattle is directed into this gloomy building to get hung from chains and get their necks slit to bleed to death. The floor is covered in high amounts of blood, the smell is unreal. I am the Knocker. I am incharge of knocking out the cows. I shoot them to become unconcious so the workers can chain them up to be slit open. (ugh this is so gross)

How much $$$ do you earn?-
i earn abou 30,000 a year plus bonuses.
How do your days go?
What are your work hours and what do you do after work? i work long 8 hour shifts, when i get to go home, i simply eat and go to bed. i have no energy left. some times i wish i didn't wake up the next morning
-Where do you live, what do you live in, how is your quality of life? my quality of life is pretty average, there is no way i would be making what i do in mexico so i simply take what i can get. just like those easy shifts that come and go when you don't report an injury. I live in a small house with me and my family, we are doing better than we would in mexico thats all i got to say.

What is your main drive to succeed in college and why?

My main dirve to succeed in college is the idea of a perfect life. To do what you wanna do, live a life most do, and be happy with your profession. I know im a smart girl, i know i can accomplish my goals, but what i don' t know is what my future holds. I feel like the drive to succeed in college is the key to my future; it will dictate where i live, how i live, and how happy I truly am. As contradicting as it is, money doen'st make people happy, but i do believe it helps. I mean a family, a house, a good job that i enjoy is going to make me happy, but to have a house you need money.... so anyways the perfect life is my drive for success

Do you think that you might switch your major?

I might, i enjoyed ever second of my internship which is also contradicting to think i want to aim away from my major. I feel like the waiting an extra year, and maybe not getting in scares me and it's time not everyone has to spare. I might... im staying in the medical feild, don't really wanna go through pre-med, but we'll see no rush right?

blog 7.

1) Post your favorite lyrics, poem, or quote for this week.

Hurry up and waitSo close, but so far awayEverything that you've always dreamed ofClose enough for you to tasteBut you just can't touch

2) Develop two reflection questions that you would ask your students at this point in the course if you were a UN100 Professor.
What was the most rewarding lesson of this class?
What would you change about yourself, your habits, your priorities after taking this corse.

3) What are you passionate about? Why?
I'm passionate about people in my life. I'm passionate for friends, family, and people that left an impression on me. I feel this way because i feel life wouldn't be life without friends... family.. and strangers who leaving with the question what if?

4) How are you going to finance your three years of the Radiology program?
I took out student loans, I'm going go work and start to pay it off, and once i get my job, i will work at paying it off.

If you will be in debt from student loans at the end, calculate roughly how much you will owe upon graduation.
about 30,000 dollars.

5) Have you changed your mind or do you have any new concerns about your program of study after our guest speakers today (Dr. Foley & Joanne)? Yeah, i started to change my mind. i don't want to sit around like I'm going to have to.

Are you thinking of a different major or are you dead set on Radiology?
I am indeed thinking of a different major, not sure what but something in the medical feild.

What behavior(s) will you maybe have to change in order to keep up with and make the cut?
its just based on getting my prereqs done and going from there.

6)

FAST FOOD NATION (You should be reading through Chapter 7 at this point)Reflect upon the opening lines of Chapter 7:"You can smell Greeley, Colorado, long before you can see it. The smell is hard to forget but not easy to describe, a combination of live animals, manure, and dead animals being rendered into dog food."
yeahhh.. umm this is gross. I'm so glad marquette is normal and not easily described by its smell :)

-Have you ever read The Jungle by Upton Sinclair? If so, how does it relate to FFN?
No i haven't read this book. It seems like it would talk about the meat packaging places and how unhealthy dirty it is.

-How high is the employee turnover rate in the meat industry and why don't the packing plants see this as a problem?
The turnover rate is about 80%... The meat industry doesn't care because this job is so easy to master without any specified skills. Anyone can package meat without education or other training besides the on the job training when they start the job.

We discussed captive supplies of cattle versus regular farming. Reflect upon this quote from page 150:"To supply the beef slaughterhouse, ConAgra operates a pair of enormous feedlots. Each of them can hold up to one hundred thousand head of cattle..During the three months before slaughter, they eat grain..The grain fattens the cattle quickly, aided by the anabolic steroids implanted in their ear."
This is so gross and sad. How would you feel to know your born to eat and be slaughtered. It makes me sick how this world resorts to such extremes to make a profit.

-Do you think that these animals' emotions (fears, stress, anger) affect the meat we eat derived from them? How?
I never really thought about it, but now i'm sure it does. It's just like any human, your stress, anger, and fears affect your health so im sure it does the same to these animals. You can get high bloodpressure, heart disease, and other illnesses that are effected by your mental health.

-How do you feel about eating steroids via consumption of "USDA Inspected" beef?
I almost want to become a vegetarian.. it really grosses me out to think my meat isn't really meat at all.

2) Reflect upon one tactic we discussed in class this week concerning Procrastination, Study Habits, Retainment, or Test-Taking/Anxiety. (Choose something that you will probably try and discuss why).

well, an obvious choice for me to discuss is of course test-taking/anxiety. I find this habit i guess to be untreatable in my sistuation. I have all the tricks, all the to do's and don'ts to prevent most of my anxiety but it doesn't seem to work. I'm a clock watcher, if i don't have a way to look at a clock 24/7 i freak. I find everything is based on a schedule and i feel if i was to break this "schedule" i would be lost. For tests, i feel like i can say im rather smart. I know the subject, i know my information, and i know how to study. You could ask me any question usually and i could answer right away without hesitation. I know how to learn information and keep it in my long term memory. I use all the tatics we discussed in class, breath, stick to your normal routine, don't drink caffeine, and prevent being a clock watcher like i do second to second of every day. I just draw a blank and know im going to when i walk into a test which is why i am so overly prepared compared to most. I took the MME's and passed, gaining a scholarship. I was told this wasn't a graded test in any sort of a way the only thing you could get out of it is a scholarship so i walked into it without stress of being tested. At the same time i took the ACT.... well i recieved a 21... knowing it was a test but yet i passed the MME's with flying colors and recieved 28, 29 on the ACT plan test.
